The hinges are what hold your laptop screen to the base, and after years of opening and closing they take a beating. When the metal fatigues or the mounting points crack, you end up with a screen that is stiff, wobbly, will not stay at an angle, or that pulls the bezel and case apart near the corners.
Left alone, a failing hinge can crack the screen housing or stretch the display cable, so it is worth sorting early. We replace worn or broken hinges with better quality parts where we can, and reseat everything so the screen opens smoothly and sits firm again.
